Brad Moreland was raised in North East Mississippi in the
town of Starkville. Music and singing have been a part of his
life for as long as he can remember. "Sunday mornings just
wouldn't have been the same without the smell of biscuits
in the oven and Vestal Goodman belting out the theme to
"Jubilee" on TV." His dad sang in church quartets for as long
as he can remember, and Brad couldn't wait until he was old
enough to take part. And take part he did...it wasn't long
before he was playing the piano for his dad's group. "Every once
in a while we even got to visit other churches and civic events to sing; now that
was truly exciting!"
When Brad was in his teens he and a few friends started their own group called
Trinity. "We used to practice in my Aunt Eunice's living room in town because she
was centrally located to everybody else. Bless that poor old lady's heart...she put
up with a lot with our drums and guitars and such. It's a wonder the police were
never called." While singing with Trinity, Brad got a call from a busy regional group
by the name of Southern Cross. After a quick audition, he
landed the baritone position and hit the road. "I remember
meeting the group in Louisville, MS at a concert they
were having with a then new group called Greater
Vision. "Boy let me tell you, hearing them sing really lit
a fire underneath me and I knew for a fact this music
called southern gospel was what I was meant to do the
rest of my life. I packed my bags in that trailer and hopped in the van and off we
went. I loved traveling so much..and still do. I think it gets into your blood and
you can never get rid of it. I met so many interesting people in my years with
Southern Cross such as The McFall family. Brother James McFall was the writer
of one of my favorite Happy Goodman songs "Thank God I'm Free." I felt like I
was associating with royalty!"
When Southern cross disbanded, Brad joined a legendary group called The
Bibletones from Gulfport, MS. "This group was different...the level of
professionalism was vamped up big time from what I was used to traveling with
guys my own age. These men were veterans....and I had to step up to the plate!
First of all, Tommy Atwood, famous Florida Boys tenor was standing next to me
which blew me away. And on the other side was Howard Rutland who in my
opinion still can't be matched as far as smooth vocals go! Glen Floyd sang bass
and one of the greatest songwriters I know, Vaughn Thacker on piano. You
might remember their number one hit "The Ground Is Level At Calvary."
Brad left the Bibletones after a few years and took a
position as music minister at a small church in Houston, MS.
He then joined NewDay Quartet based out of West Point,
MS up until 2006 when the group disbanded. Brad is now
traveling in a solo ministry having just completed his first solo
project since signing with Lamp Music Group out of
Whitesburg, GA. "I don't know if I'll be a solo artist from
here on...if the Lord opens the right door I would love to
sing in a group again. I love the camaraderie that group
singing offers...switching off parts...there's so much energy
on stage. I don't know what the Lord has planned for tomorrow... so for now I
think I'll just enjoy the journey as each day unfolds before me!"

Most Embarrassing Moment

I was playing keyboards in a group...I had the kind of stand
where you could stack two on top of each other. Well, we were
playing in front of a few thousand people at a fair event and I
stepped back, tripped on a monitor, and pulled all my keyboards
down on top of me. I didn't know how to recover so I just rolled
off the back of the stage and waited for help to arrive!
